The Renewable Energy Foundation has today published its response to Natural England's consultation, ‘Assessing the Environmental Capacity for On-Shore Wind Energy Development’ (July 2009), which seeks advice on formulating its policy as a consultation body on development plans in relation to renewable energy, and in particular to on-shore wind farms.
REF suggests that despite the recognition that climate change poses a threat to the natural environment, a balance should be struck between facilitating the generation of renewable energy and protecting the natural and semi-natural environment from negative impacts.
Natural England should recognise the ‘need not to damage or destroy the very environment that action on climate change is designed to protect’.
